This project centers on the former Taitung Railway Station as its core, responding to the city’s century-long railway history and contemporary urban development by establishing a new cultural brand, the “TAITUNG Line.” Through the reinterpretation of local historical contexts and diverse cultural memories, the former station is transformed from a historical site into a cultural node that connects the past, present, and future.
The brand is built upon the concept of “linear connection,” linking space, history, and lived experiences. By integrating recreational functions, permanent exhibitions, and brand identity, it shapes a cultural environment that invites visitors to stay, engage, and participate. The “TAITUNG Line” redefines the former station from its original role as a transportation hub into a “new cultural platform” that carries historical narratives and collective memories, while also serving as a cultural gateway to convey Taitung’s slow living philosophy and urban charm.
Curated under the brand “TAITUNG Line,” this project responds to the historical context of the former Taitung Railway Station by transforming railway development and local memories into content that can be both understood and experienced. At the same time, it functions as a key entry node of the Old Station District, guiding visitors in understanding the overall development of the area.
The site adopts “curation” as a strategy for brand-building, placing human experience at its core. The original station structure is reimagined as a cultural space that supports visiting, staying, and social interaction. Spatial functions include a Brand Center (providing site information and indexing the remaining station structures), a Permanent Exhibition Area of the Old Station District (introducing the overall development context), a Historical Exhibition Area (presenting a century of railway history and local stories), and a Lounge Area integrating reading, dining, and special exhibitions—creating diverse and engaging scenarios for public use.
The exhibition strategy combines “surface-based displays” and “point-based installations,” embedding railway memories into spatial circulation and functional zones. This approach enables visitors to naturally experience exhibitions, rest, and social interaction as part of a continuous journey through movement and pause.
