This project centers on the former Taitung Railway Station, responding to the city’s century-long railway heritage and contemporary development by establishing a new cultural brand, the “TAITUNG Line.” By reinterpreting local historical narratives and diverse cultural memories, the former station is transformed from a historical site into a cultural node that connects the past, present, and future.
Grounded in the concept of “linear connection,” the brand interweaves space, history, and everyday life. It integrates leisure functions, permanent exhibitions, and a unified identity system to create a cultural environment where visitors are invited to stay, explore, and participate. The “TAITUNG Line” repositions the former station from its original role as a transportation hub into a new cultural platform that carries both historical depth and lived experiences. It also serves as a cultural gateway through which Taitung’s slow living philosophy and urban character are communicated to a wider audience.
The TAITUNG Line is a journey beyond imagination. Taitung itself is the train that brings dreams into reality and carries them forward.
The nighttime light installation unfolds along Taitung’s “Route of Dreams” as its narrative backbone. Like a train in motion, it travels through the impulse to dream, the action of building dreams, the fulfillment of achieving them, and the unfolding of future possibilities. Through these stages, audiences experience five distinct rhythms of life in Taitung: the freedom of the wind, the sincerity of sunlight, the coexistence of mountains and sea, the vastness of the sky, and the continuity of the land.
The train symbolizes the moving trajectory of life and dreams. Taitung is where dreams arrive, take shape, and begin again.
