This project is grounded in Taitung’s unique natural environment and cultural heritage, proposing a curatorial vision centered on the concept of the “Slow Economy.” It responds to contemporary reflections on sustainable living and the relationship between humans and nature. Located on Taiwan’s southeastern coast, with the Central Mountain Range at its back and the Pacific Ocean before it, Taitung is a place where mountains and sea converge, nurturing rich natural resources and diverse cultural communities. Together, these elements shape the region’s core values of Purity, Goodness, and Aesthetics.
Building upon Taitung’s development philosophy—“slow as beauty, nature as foundation, and life as essence”—the exhibition adopts “Slow for Life” as its curatorial framework. Through perspectives of natural environment, rhythms of everyday life, and cultural perception, the exhibition presents Taitung’s slow-paced philosophy of living. Through exhibitions and immersive experiences, visitors are invited to slow down, reconnect with nature, rediscover the meaning of daily life, and reflect on more sustainable relationships between people, land, communities, and the wider world—ultimately reawakening the imagination of an ideal way of living.
Taitung: A Living School
——Here, We Relearn How to Live
This project takes “The Living School” as its curatorial concept, positioning Taitung as a place where learning emerges continuously from the land, nature, and everyday life. The exhibition begins with the idea of a “Slow Economy Seed” falling upon the land of Taitung, symbolizing a development philosophy rooted in the region’s natural environment, cultural life, and local industries.
From this starting point, the exhibition unfolds ten curatorial themes—Air, Water, Natural Forces, Sound, Drifting, Life, The Slow Economy, Taitung Brands, and Sustainable Taitung—collectively illustrating a future vision of Taitung shaped by the principles of the slow economy.
The exhibition also introduces “Wild, Slow, and Empty” as experiential languages, inviting visitors to engage their senses and bodies to perceive Taitung’s rhythms of life and cultural values. As the “First Stop” of the Taitung Expo, the main pavilion serves as a gateway that helps visitors understand the broader exhibition framework and begin their journey of exploring Taitung.
