This year’s curatorial theme, "Resilient Island:A Dwelling of Sound," originates from the multifaceted resilience found within the land’s natural environment, cultural vitality, and everyday life. It positions sound as a medium of perception—exploring how this resilience can be heard, understood, and reimagined through the act of collective listening.
Adopting "sound" as a methodology, the curation integrates field recordings, cross-disciplinary performances, cultural walks, sound workshops, and educational outreach to foster a "listening community" shared by artists, residents, cultural workers, and the audience. We strive to return to the most direct level of perception—to listen, to feel, and to rediscover the island’s life rhythms—ultimately transforming sound into a way of dwelling.
"Taitung Soundscape 100" invites the public to submit representative sounds of Taitung. By archiving and opening these resources to the public, we are creating a sustainable local soundscape database and an online gallery for all to explore.
All themes are welcome, from history and landscapes to ethnic culture and everyday memories. Our goal is to weave together a sonic map that captures the unique identity and spirit of Taitung.
Open to everyone! Simply register on the "Taitung Soundscape GIS Open Platform" via your smartphone to upload your recordings and descriptions. This allows sounds to be tagged and geolocated, ensuring they are preserved as public resources for future use.
Don't miss our "Cross-disciplinary Performances & Market," featuring local and international artists. Enjoy participatory art, improv, pop, Latin, and folk music alongside a vibrant market of local vendors for a truly immersive experience.
