#Taitung Brand
Taitung Arts Festival
Project Overview

Founded in 2011, the Taitung Arts Festival celebrates its 16th edition in 2026 with the theme “Island of Voices.” The festival envisions theatre as a place of resonance—an island where voices from different communities, generations, and lived experiences come together and respond to one another.

Taiwan is an island shaped by diverse cultures, and Taitung is a unique meeting ground of languages, beliefs, and embodied traditions. Here, voices emerge in many forms: in Indigenous songs and movements, in the cheers of baseball crowds, in the memories carried by mountains and the sea, and in the quiet stories of everyday lives.

Through theatre, dance, music, and musical productions, the festival sketches a vibrant sonic landscape of the contemporary island.

①  Paelabang danapan “Wine, once in a long while” Concert

Throughout my life, singing has been a thread that weaves my experiences together. From the tribal chants of my childhood and the masses of Lu Sen-bao in my youth, to the improvisational songs of my days in social movements—they have always been by my side, guiding my way.

②Musical〈Go! Home Run〉: The entire baseball field is brought into the theatre!

The 2025 Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group, AMCreative, is coming to Taitung with the passionate, dream-chasing musical “Go! Home Run!”.

The story follows the Seagull Little League team, a group known for constant losses, as they grow through setbacks and challenges. Along the way, they develop an ace pitcher and a powerhouse slugger. At the decisive moment of the national championship, they must learn to trust their teammates and swing for the most powerful home run of their lives.

③ Sangpuy: Flowing Boundaries - Songs of Land, Faith, and Memory

Songs are boundaries, voices are bridges.

This voice-based performance by acclaimed Indigenous singer Sangpuy is a journey through shifting cultural landscapes—where geography, beliefs, and memory converge. Rooted in the traditions of the Pinuyumayan people of Taiwan, it explores how visible and invisible borders have been shaped and reshaped through time, migration, and encounters with external religions and systems. Through songs sung in the Pinuyumayan language, interwoven with personal stories, Sangpuy invites the audience into a sonic space where ancestral voices meet contemporary consciousness. In this space, music becomes a vessel that carries the weight of history and the breath of the present.

④ Human Condition VIII

Mingcan has been retired for years, living a monotonous and repetitive life. He feels disrespected, unneeded, and unheard, especially after a police crackdown on his adult massage parlor caused his status at home to sink to rock bottom. One fateful day, firecrackers from a nearby lottery shop reveal that he has won a staggering 1.1 billion jackpot, seemingly transforming his position within the family.
