1996–2026 Echoes Along the East: A Taitung Soundscape Journey
Project Overview

“To listen is to return home.”
1996–2026 Echoes Along the East centers on the “currents of memory” of students and faculty from National Taitung University, reflecting on three decades of urban landscapes and industrial transformations in Taitung.

Through online and on-site interviews, the project gathers alumni memories of places and local shops, integrating sound collection, video production, and satellite exhibitions across the region to present intertwined narratives of outward migration and return.

By treating sound as a form of documentation and image as a mode of storytelling, the project extends beyond a study of local soundscapes—it becomes a collective act of listening and cultural engagement.

Date|Mar 28 (Sat), Mar 29 (Sun)

Overview|This project invites National Taitung University alumni and the public to share the places and people they miss in Taitung online—who they wish to see, what they want to say, and what they long to eat.

Following these submissions, the team sets out to trace each story in person, completing the journeys on behalf of participants through a vlog format. From March to July, the project unfolds in five chapters, documenting place-based memories that transcend distance.
