The development of the sugar industry has profoundly shaped Taitung’s urban landscape and social structure. Since the Japanese colonial period, the settlements, railway networks, and port systems established by the Taitung Sugar Factory have not only driven agricultural and industrial growth, but also become a vital foundation of local culture and collective memory.
The Old Station District stands as a key site bearing witness to this historical transformation. Its emergence was closely tied to sugar railway routes used to transport sugar to the port, forming a crucial link between inland production and maritime trade.
Sugary Taitung presents years of research on sugar industry culture, inviting the public to reflect on the relationship between the sugar industry and Taitung.
