Located on Taiwan’s East Coast, Chenggong Township was once known for its jade—a resource that symbolized both local prosperity and cultural identity, carrying stories shaped by the region’s unique geology and community history.
Over time, however, this resource-based industry has declined and now faces challenges in sustaining its knowledge and craftsmanship. The project “Chenggong Stone & Light Lab: A New Generation's Reinterpretation of East Coast Gems” seeks to rediscover the cultural value of jade—not through mass production, but by emphasizing craftsmanship and the stories embedded in the local landscape.
By reimagining jade as a medium of cultural memory, the project transforms its cultural significance into a driving force for sustainable local development.
