Emerging from public perspectives and taking root across Taitung, the Community Participation Plan forms a symphony of collective voices at the heart of the 2026 Taitung Expo.
Grounded in the core values of “Taitung Blue,” the “slow economy,” and “sustainable development”—and aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—the Plan launched an open call for forward-thinking curatorial proposals reflecting diverse perspectives. By inviting individual changemakers, civic organizations, and cross-disciplinary teams, it fosters creative exchange and transforms public issues into tangible action.
From early public roundtable dialogues and idea incubation to open-call briefings and case-sharing sessions, the Plan received a total of 55 proposals. Following a rigorous selection process, 23 projects were chosen, with a total of NT$12 million in grants awarded to support their implementation across Taitung.
The selected projects span diverse fields—including cultural development, education, social systems, industry and economy, everyday life initiatives, and environmental sustainability—demonstrating the region’s diversity and the vitality of civic participation. As these initiatives unfold across Taitung, sustained practice continues to build local momentum. From the 2026 Taitung Expo onward, this growing energy sets the stage for a celebration created by and for all.
This exhibition is themed around the "Taitung Fire Up," framing the "Community Participation Plan" as a shared barbecue gathering. Drawing on the transformation of ingredients—from raw to fully cooked—it conveys the bottom-up spirit of co-creation. Each participant arrives with their own visions of life; through the shared rhythms of lighting the fire and tending the grill, these visions gradually take shape, creating moments of connection and warmth.
Visitors are invited to embark on a journey of action rooted in everyday life. It begins at the "Inspiration Fuel Depot," where small, everyday aspirations are gathered and kindled into sparks for engaging with public issues. The journey then moves into the “Torch Lab,” where ideas are ignited and take shape through Open Space Technology (OST), gradually converging through collective dialogue. Finally, visitors arrive at the "Taitung Grand Barbecue Feast," where 22 community initiatives—like dishes slowly cooking over the grill—come to fruition. Through ongoing interaction and exchange, each “action dish” offers a distinct response to local challenges, inviting visitors to experience and savor the results.
The exhibition space weaves together situational metaphors, spatial narratives, and interactive dialogue, transforming community participation into a tangible, experiential process. As visitors move through the space and make choices along the way, they are invited to witness how action takes root in everyday life and, through collective effort, grows into an enduring force that continues to illuminate the community’s future.
